While celebrating the art form of drag, people often forget or don’t know the origins of drag. Everyone who came before us to make it all possible. This project is to tell the stories of all the important figures in drag culture that came before the mainstream.

Paying homage to drag history, the overall brand parts were inspired by diy type and old-school print methods, because drag promotional material in history has often been handmade or DIY due to it being underground.

Drawing inspiration from bitmap imagery I created a modular typeface for the Drag Herstory logo.

To tell the story of the iconic drag history, I created a spatial installation that will be displayed in front of the exhibition of Drag Herstory. To learn more about each icon, the audience can tap each letter form to see how each icon made a difference in the history of drag.

With the website, the user can drag the halftone cursor to reveal the image playing on the concept of drag. The website takes on this zine-like style that gives the audience a short timeline of the drag herstory and a digital version of the zine for the event.

The Drag Herstory zine features queer stories, and powerful imagery from the past, including a drag index to showcase how drag language has evolved through time.

Drag Herstory reflects the importance of history through homage and compelling spatial experiences. This approach educates and connects the audience, leaving a lasting impact on the history of drag.
